Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra was released last week, and now thousands of players are battling it out with their fantasy line-ups every day. We’ve talked about how Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is the AU MOBA you didn’t know you needed, but now we’ll talk about the game itself with a little more depth in our Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra review.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is a casual 4v4 MOBA where teams of four battle it out in two lanes trying to claim the other side’s Dragon Ball. They do this by defeating the Gods of Destructions that are stationed across the lane. Each player takes on the role of one of the game’s three main classes: DPS, Tank, and Tech, with a total of 21 different characters to choose from.

Gods of Destructions are defeated by attacking them with a Gekishin Blast while they’re unguarded and under attack by Zen-Oh. These Gods of Destructions act like Towers in your typical MOBA, so you’ll have to be careful when engaging them! Meanwhile, Gods of Destructions can give you refuge if an enemy fighter is chasing you, and as long as you’re not being attacked by a Zen-Oh, the Gods of Destructions can also heal you.

That means you’ll have to get stronger before engaging the enemy Gods of Destructions. Thankfully, there’s no shortage of neutral fighters on the lane and even outside of it to help you level up. Unlike in other MOBAs, there are no creeps or minions that spawn from your base and attack the enemy tower. Instead, you only have your Zen-Ohs to help you push down lanes, and you only have neutral fighters and the enemy heroes to fight against to get stronger.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra’s free-flowing map design gives players a lot of space to work with. If they’re under-leveled and need space to train, they can do so outside of the lanes, away from the hustle and bustle of the Gods of Destructions and Zen-Ohs. Meanwhile, there are also clouds and smoke that could obstruct the view of enemy fighters. And finally, movement is very fluid as fighters gain a speed boost after moving for a short while. Movement in Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is very fluid indeed.

For some characters, they can reach a power level that allows them to transform - permanently increasing their stats and the power of their skills and abilities. This is one of Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra’s most unique features, and these transformations are faithful to the spirit of Dragon Ball! Goku, Vegeta, and others can become Super Saiyan and become an even more devastating force on the battlefield!

With that said, the biggest strength of Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is its roster. With 21 characters, there are a lot of fighters for players to choose from, and many different combinations can be made with their 4-man team. There are a lot of cameos, too, so Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra feels like a celebration of Dragon Ball’s entire history! Of course, more fighters are coming in future patches, but the roster is perfect right now for a new game with players still figuring out how to play and the meta is still just taking shape.

Finally, players can experience a very unique take to the MOBA genre with a lot of Dragon Ball flair - a game that plays and feels like Dragon Ball and beautifully integrates Dragon Ball’s unique quirks as gameplay features. If you love Dragon Ball, then you should definitely try out Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra.
