Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is the AU MOBA You Didn't Know You Needed

Earlier this week, Bandai Namco released a new Dragon Ball video game that, chances are, you haven’t heard of. Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is a new Alternate Universe MOBA game that’s on Steam, PlayStation 5, Mobile, and the Nintendo Switch. Although it came out with very little fanfare and marketing, Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra has thousands of daily players on Steam alone, not to mention the entire playerbase on all platforms in hundreds of thousands. There’s one key reason why this game is well-received, and it’s this game’s fantasy team ups.

Due to the nature of the game as a 4v4 real-time strategy multiplayer online battle arena, you and your friends get to form parties of four heroes and villains from all over the Dragon Ball franchise, creating team ups that would never have been possible in the anime. Sure, previous games like Dragon Ball FighterZ lets you build fantasy teams of up to three characters, but you don’t really see them fighting side by side rather just tagging in and out as they fight in 1v1 combat. With 21 playable characters, the game allows you to form thousands of different combinations with the launch roster alone, making sure that each game would feel different. The game also has three different game modes that extends its replayability and expand its variety of gameplay.
