Chapter 5: Boneyard Brawl
[Wildlands
Drone
Footage,
Steven
Wulfe]
[2:00
PM]
The
blistering
heat
of
the
sands
choked
the
gently
windswept
air
of
the
island
tightly.
With
no
signs
of
life
for
hours,
Steven
sat
in
his
buggy,
drinking
water
and
wiping
his
brow
clean
of
sweat.
It’d
been
many
years
since
he’d
left
the
colds
of
Alaska,
and
it
was
evident
he
felt
like
a
fish
out
of
water
when
arriving.
Slowly
but
surely
he
was
adjusting,
but
now
all
that
was
on
his
mind
was
his
next
trophy
animal.
With
a
glancing
gaze,
Steven
scoured
the
surrounding
desert
with
his
binoculars.
Continuing
on
his
way
across
the
desert
in
the
buggy;
Steven
saw
a
slight
depression
in
the
rolling
sands.
Stopping,
he
noticed
that
the
depression
led
towards
a
sloped
area
and
a
watering
hole.
If
there
were
any
animals
in
the
immediate
area,
they
would've
left
signs
at
the
watering
hole.
Exiting
the
buggy
to
reduce
his
noise,
Steven
left
the
vehicle
brandishing
his
rifle.
He
went
atop
a
nearby
small
hill
to
do
a
quick
bit
of
glassing
to
check
for
animal
signs.
Amidst
the
barren
area,
there
were
several
bleached
bones
half
buried
in
the
sands.
One
being
what
appeared
to
be
half
of
a
young
Kelenken
that
became
a
lizard's
home.
Bones
out
in
the
desert
aren't
anything
too
odd,
but
something
felt
slightly
off.
Continuing
towards
the
watering
hole,
Steven
while
glassing
had
checked
the
winds.
And
it
blew
favorably
enough
that
he
felt
it
safe
to
continue.
But
unbeknownst
to
him,
the
winds
were
beginning
to
shift
into
a
new
direction.
And
as
he
walked,
Steven
began
noticing
more
and
more
signs
of
death.
There
was
a
crawling
feeling
of
dread
that
surrounded
the
area
as
Steven
investigated.
Nearby,
something
watched
the
hunter
curiously,
and
hungrily.
Then
Steven
noticed
even
more
bones
scattered
around
what
appeared
to
be
a
gigantic
burrow
similar
to
that
of
a
lizard.
That
was
when
it
became
quite
evident
that
he'd
made
a
mistake.
“This
is
no
watering
hole,
this
is
a
predator's
turf.”
Steven
said,
a
chill
running
through
his
body.
A
few
moments
later,
the
sound
of
sand
crashing
alerted
the
hunter
of
an
approaching
presence.
Steven
ran
to
the
left
as
the
snapping
jaws
of
a
creature
narrowly
missed
where
his
head
was.
The
creature's
head
slammed
onto
the
ground
from
the
force.
Shaking
its
head,
it
turned
and
hissed
flaring
relatively
small
teeth
adorned
in
a
short
but
bulky
skull.
There
was
a
small
pointed
horn
on
top
of
the
semi
oval
shaped
skull.
This
beast
had
a
stocky
muscular
build
standing
at
about
eight
feet
tall,
with
a
length
of
twenty
two
feet,
its
somewhat
large
legs,
an
absolutely
pathetic
set
of
tiny
arms,
and
a
bulky
wide
tail.
Its
scales
were
colored
with
a
pattern
exactly
like
that
of
a
gila
monster,
with
the
skull
being
entirely
black
in
color.
Steven,
in
a
moment
recognizing
this
beast,
knew
he
had
a
fight
ahead.
It
was
the
king
lizard
of
India,
Rajasaurus.

The
Rajasaurus
hissed
and
bobbed
its
head
in
a
way
that
reminded
Steven
like
a
bird's
movement.
This
dinosaur
had
a
strange
mix
of
reptilian
appearance
with
bird-like
movements
and
lizard-like
sounds.
It
was
a
perplexing
creature,
but
in
close
proximity
to
the
beast
Steven
felt
a
primal
dread
gripping
his
heart
as
adrenaline
rushed
at
thousands
miles
per
second.
He
was
face
to
face
with
a
prehistoric
predator
in
close
proximity.
And
was
in
the
predators
feeding
ground,
a
dire
strait
on
the
first
day
of
the
hunt
already.
“Oh
crap,
not
good,
not
good!”
Steven
said,
eyes
wide.
The
Rajasaurus
snapped
its
jaws
towards
Steven’s
left
arm,
with
the
hunter
kicking
the
reptile’s
jaw.
It
repulsed
back
a
bit,
giving
Steven
a
second
to
back
away
and
fire
a
shot.
With
the
bullet
seming
to
only
graze
the
beasts
hide
causing
minor
bleeding.
The
dinosaur
charged
forward
snapping
its
jaws
downwards.
Steven
ran
to
the
side
kicking
sand
up
as
he
dodged
the
barrage
of
bites
that
followed.
It
was
a
dangerous
dance
of
bites
and
dodges
across
the
hot
sands,
two
hunters
searching
for
openings.
However,
the
dinosaur
had
decided
to
change
the
dance
as
it
suddenly
swung
its
head
to
the
side.
Steven
felt
the
wind
knocked
out
of
him
for
a
moment
as
the
skull
of
the
Rajasaurus
impacted
his
lower
abdomen.
Flying
backwards
he
impacted
the
hot
sand
and
small
bits
of
bone
were
crushed
under
his
weight.
Quickly
Steven
got
up
and
began
running
kicking
sand
behind
him
as
the
dinosaur
continued
his
pursuit
with
its
jaws
wide
open
as
anger,
pain,
and
hunger
was
motivating
it.
Ahead
of
the
two
of
them
was
the
watering
hole,
and
it
was
there
where
Steven
planned
his
attack.
The
dinosaur
was
way
too
fast
to
line
up
a
proper
shot
in
this
current
position.
He
needed
to
slow
things
down,
and
while
he
was
in
the
air
he
saw
an
opportunity.
Looking
behind
him,
Steven
saw
the
Rajasaurus
was
within
six
feet
of
him.
The
perfect
amount,
and
telling
from
the
body
and
movements,
this
was
a
larger
individual
weighing
likely
around
4,000
pounds.
With
a
sudden
turn
to
the
right
across
the
very
edge
of
the
watering
hole,
Steven
ducked
and
rolled
across
the
ground
narrowly
dodging
a
leaped
charge
towards
him.
The
dinosaur
had
no
time
to
react
as
it
crashed
forward
into
the
water
and
mud,
its
overwhelming
mass
of
muscle
and
bone
quickly
causing
it
to
sink.
The
Rajasaurus
desperately
thrashed
around
hissing
and
snapping
angrily
its
yellow
eyes
staring
directly
at
Steven
as
he
began
to
stand
and
face
his
opponent.
The
hunter
was
incredibly
winded
and
could
feel
blood
trickling
down
his
abdomen.
But,
it
worked,
he'd
survived
and
it
was
time
to
finish
the
day's
hunt.
Aiming
his
gun,
he
narrowed
in
on
the
beast's
lungs.
“You
are
my
prey
now.”
Steven
said,
letting
out
a
breath.
And
with
one
loud
ringing
shot,
the
Rajasaurus
was
killed.
And
Steven
had
taken
down
two
of
the
island's
predators.
This
was
a
very
strong
start
for
The
Primeval
Hunt.
Though
as
he
lifted
his
shirt,
he
could
see
a
sizable
slash
on
his
abdomen.
A
lucky
thing
in
comparison
to
what
could've
happened.
This
was
a
sobering
reminder,
he
got
lucky
today.
And
that
things
were
only
going
to
get
more
dangerous
from
there
on,
for
him
and
his
fellow
hunters.
