A prison that doesn’t look like one (Casey POV)
Years
of
habits
were
hard
to
break,
so
I
stood
under
a
stream
of
cold
water
in
the
shower
and
thought.
The
conversations
and
time
I
had
spent
with
Nathan
and
Damien
yesterday
told
me
a
few
things
about
them.
Most
important
of
which
was
that
they
possessed
an
insufferable
haughtiness
that
obviously
gave
them
justification
for
holding
me
down.
The
terms
'property'
or
'pet'
gave
me
an
accurate
idea
of
how
they
regarded
me.
I
just
didn't
know
yet
if
they
really
assumed
that
I
would
take
myself
into
captivity
without
resistance
and
let
everything
happen
to
me.
However,
I
had
the
nagging
feeling
that
I
could
escape
from
the
cell
much
easier
than
from
an
apartment
with
Nathan
in
the
bedroom
next
door.
A
prison
that
didn't
look
like
one.
How
I
hated
places
like
that.
